Moravian Church in Honduras

Mosquitia, the largest wilderness area in Central America, includes a 5,500 square mile area in eastern Honduras that has been isolated politically, socially, geographically, linguistically, and economically. Many people have never heard the gospel, and the nearest hospital can be 12 or more hours away by canoe.

Ovelio Lopez, a Honduran physician trained in Cuba, serves as medical director of a 39-bed hospital in the community of Ahuas on the border of La Mosquitia. He also provides medical services ranging from obstetrics and pediatrics to major surgery.
