HOST FAQ's

H.O.S.T. FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Thanks for your interest in being a HOST.  We certainly appreciate it.

Know that we are here for your questions, to listen and to encourage

You as you HOST.  Remember that where God leads, God will provide.

WHERE Where should you HOST your group?  This is an easy one.  You can host your group almost anywhere.  Your Home is a place where you feel comfortable so why not start there.  As long as you have a VCR or DVD you should be able to HOST any where.

Do I have to have it at my home?  No, you could HOST in the home of someone in the group that’s fine.

Can I HOST at the church?  It depends on the day and the time.  If space is available, certainly, but remember people may feel more relaxed in your home.

WHATCan I team up with someone?  Of course!  Ask someone who will encourage you and team up, one of you can HOST the other can do snack or open their home or bring the VCR, etc.

What about childcare?  Babysitting can be expensive.  If you have a group that has this need, take it seriously.  You could meet on Sunday nights when there will be Baby sitting provided at the church or you could have the kids at the neighbors as you meet in your home.  If everyone who has kids pitches money into the pot, the baby sitter will make out just fine.  We hope to offer baby sitting at the church for children up and including 5 years old on Sunday nights at the church from 6 to 8:30 PM.

What if I’m going to be away during the seven week study? – that’s ok.  Not everyone is going to be able to make every meeting.  If you are going to be away see if anyone else in the group would be willing to HOST for one week.  Or see if you could double up one week while you are available.

WHEN When should my group meet?  Since you are the HOST you choose the time and the day.  If after meeting your group finds a date that won’t work for everyone, see if there is another date available.  The time of day doesn’t matter either.  You want to HOST when the people you invite can be there.  It could be right after church, or for breakfast or in the afternoon or in the evening.

WHOWho should be in my group?  Anyone you choose to be in it.  Ask your friends, relatives, co workers, neighbors, the point is that people need each other.  We will also publicly advertise, if you choose, when your group is meeting so that others who are looking for a group might find one.

·        What supplies/support will be provided for the HOST’s?

o        We will provide you with some coaching tips that will walk you through the process.

o       We will provide you with a 8 to 10 minute video that will have the teaching content.

o       We will provide you a discussion guide that will bring in 4 or 5 questions that relate to the video teaching.

o       We will provide you with support information and discussion guides on our church web site [as soon as it launches on Feb. 1, 2005]

·        What do I have to supply as a HOST?

o       Provide a place to meet, your home, a friends home, the church, at work, where ever.

o       A welcoming spirit, to make people feel like they are important and valued.

o       Some kind of snack, but you can also share this responsibility around the group.

o       A working VCR or DVD player so you can watch the teaching video.

·        How long is the study?

o       The seven weeks of Lent.

o       We start the week of Ash Wednesday and finish the week before Easter Sunday.

o       Pastor Duane will be preaching about Love from 1 Corinthians 13 and other Bible passages.

·        Why this study now?

o       Basically, this is the one thing that Christians and the world have in common; we both need love.  God is the source, Christ is the example, and the Holy Spirit is wisdom and energy to accomplish loving others.  The great commandment tells us to love God and love each other.

o       There could be no better topic to study during the most important time of the year in the church calendar as we look to celebrating Easer.
