What does a DLT Look Like?
What does a typical Doing LIFE Together group meeting look like?
Ahead of time…
· Pray for your group meeting; asking God to guide you, to open the hearts of those coming, and to speak into the lives of everyone present.
· Get your snack ready, made sure the VCR/DVD/TV are working, provide enough seating for those coming.
At the meeting…
· Welcome everyone at the door
· Make introductions to be sure that everyone knows everyone.
· Thank everyone for coming. Serve the food…
· After some time of getting to know each other ask people to gather in the room where the TV is.
· Ask someone to open with prayer
· Watch the video
· Ask the discussion questions
· Remind people that this is to be a safe place, so let’s keep what is talked about here that is personal, confidential.
· Ask if there is anything in the lives of those present that the group could pray about in during the week.
· Double check the date and time of your next meeting, is it going to work for the majority?
· Close in prayer or ask for a volunteer to close or chose in a circle prayer where everyone is invited to pray one sentence.
After the meeting…
· Pray for your group, maybe send an encouraging email or phone call, pray for your next meeting.
Suggestions for Hosting a Group
1. PRAY – at the close of each group invite everyone to say a one sentence prayer giving thanks for someone that has shown them love.
2. INVITE – Ask people you know to join your group. Somebody cared enough to invite you at some point in time, now it’s time to return the favor.
3. SHARE – You don’t have to provide a snack every time you meet. On the first night pass around a piece of paper and ask everyone to pick a night that they could provide snack.
4. SIMPLE – Remember to keep it simple for two reasons. First, to keep your focus on Jesus and the people that are there. Second, to keep the meetings fun and not a hassle for anyone who is hosting.
5. ENCOURAGE – People often hear words of criticism. Make sure your group is a place that lifts people up.
6. TIME – Keep an eye on the clock. Time is very valuable, and when people give it we need to respect that gift. Be prepared, keep things moving and end on time.
7. TEAM UP – find someone else who is hosting a group and offer to pray for them and their group when they are meeting. Ask them to do the same for you and your group.
8. TRUST – Trust God to lead you as you HOST His Children.
